About Footprints Learning Center – Our Story & Mission

My name is Lena Wright, and I have over 25 years of experience in the field of education. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to working with children of all ages and developmental stages, with a strong focus on those with special needs and behavioral challenges.

I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Footprints Learning Center, where I lead with a deep commitment to inclusive practices, early childhood development, and the empowerment of both children and educators. In this role, I am passionate about fostering a nurturing, supportive environment where every child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to grow.

Over the years, I’ve served in various roles—ranging from classroom teacher and curriculum coordinator to behavioral support specialist. These experiences have shaped my ability to lead with empathy, build meaningful connections with families, and support staff. And develop an appropriate learning environment.

My philosophy is grounded in the belief that every child deserves a space that promotes curiosity, emotional resilience, and confidence. I am especially committed to incorporating outdoor learning, and hands-on discovery into early education. As a lifelong learner, I continue to advocate for best practices that serve the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
It is my mission to guide and support our team as we work together to build a community where children, families, and educators can thrive.

My name is Melinda Young, and I have proudly dedicated the last 36 years of my life to early childhood education. Since the age of 19, I’ve had a deep passion for working with young children, and that passion has only grown stronger with time. I have spent my entire career at the same childcare center, witnessing generations of families come through our doors. Over the years, I have watched children grow from infants into confident young adults—and even had the joy of caring for the children of former students.

Throughout my time here, I have served in multiple roles, including classroom teacher, center director, and now, office administrator. Each position has brought unique experiences and rewards, but I have found a special joy in my current role, where I get to connect closely with families and support both staff and parents through daily communication, organization, and care.

I am currently continuing my educational journey and pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at Greenville Technical College, reinforcing my belief that learning is lifelong and that there is always room to grow, no matter how long you’ve been in the field.

Because of my longevity and dedication, I’ve been affectionately nicknamed the “Granny of the Center.” This is a title I wear with pride—it reflects the deep relationships I’ve built, the love I have for our families, and the wisdom I strive to pass on to younger educators. My heart has always been in this work, and I’m proud to continue serving, supporting, and nurturing the next generation of learners and caregivers.

I’ve been working with children since 2009 in a variety of roles and settings, including infant toddler educator, assistant director, and early interventionist. I hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and administration.

Working with young children has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I love watching them grow, learn, and discover the world around them. Building strong, supportive relationships with families is something I value deeply.

I believe that every child is unique and deserves a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where they feel valued and encouraged to explore. I strive to support the whole child, and my goal is to spark curiosity, build confidence, and create a foundation for lifelong learning through supporting staff, children, and families.

I’ve been married since 2019 and have a little one who attended this center before I officially joined the team. Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, and I always appreciate getting lost in a good book. Fun Fact! I absolutely love all things Disney and never say no to a good brunch!

With nearly two decades of experience in early childhood education, Brittany Morris brings passion, dedication, and a whole lot of heart to her role as Assistant Director at Footprints Learning Center of Piedmont. Since beginning her journey in childcare in 2005, Brittany has worked with children of all ages, building meaningful connections and a deep understanding of what young learners need to thrive.

In 2022, she stepped into her leadership role, where she now supports teachers with curriculum development, partners with families, and—her favorite part—spends time engaging with the children each day. Her genuine love for the work and unwavering commitment to every child’s well-being shine through in everything she does.

Brittany believes that every child deserves a safe, joyful space to grow, explore, and be heard—and she’s honored to help create that every day. While it’s always bittersweet to see the children move on, she loves watching them grow and thrive in the community over the years.

Although she doesn’t have children of her own (unless you count her beloved rescue pup, Woobie), Brittany proudly considers each child at Footprints one of her own. She also considers herself a child at heart and believes in the power of laughter—whether it’s dancing around the classroom or sharing a silly moment with the kids, joy is at the center of her day.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, and curling up with a good mystery novel whenever she gets the chance.
